The Future of Jazz

Five years ago it was commonplace for a successful instrumental jazz album to sell over 40,000 copies. Not many in comparison with pop's million sellers, but enough to be commercially viable. Now a similar successful instrumental jazz album to sell no more than 3,000 copies. Record labels increasingly eye with envy the sales of the pop- influenced jazz vocalists. One Norah Jones album sells more than 300 successful instrumental jazz albums!

What does this mean for the future of instrumental jazz?
